    Come work with a great team!  Diamond Healthcare is the manager of behavioral health services for Medstar Southern Maryland Hospital Center (MSMHC) and has two openings for Nursing Supervisor:


    The Nursing Supervisor will be responsible for providing accountability for the nursing functions during the evening and weekend shifts on the Inpatient Psychiatry Unit.   This position is instrumental for the overall functioning in the delivery of behavioral health care to all patients and adherence to MSMHC and other regulatory agencies.  This person is recognized as a professional role model and promotes an environment that supports the goals, mission, vision, philosophy and values of the Division of Nursing and of Medstar Southern Maryland Hospital Center.




    1. Provides for the seamless transition of patients across the continuum of care.  In collaboration with medical staff, Executive Director of Behavioral Health Services and Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) ensures a superior care experience and a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.
    2. Communicates with Executive Director and Assistant Director of Nursing, hospital liaison, referral sources and medical staff to ensure the coordination of efforts in achieving organizational goals and objectives.
    3. Ensures policies, practices and procedures comply with administrative, legal and regulatory requirements of governmental and accrediting agencies.
    4. Communicates and interprets policies and procedures to nursing staff and monitors staff practices and implementation.
    5. Maintains a state of continuous regulatory readiness.
    6. Evaluates the work performance of all nursing personnel.
    7. Builds trust with the nursing staff through visibility.
    8. Ensures delivery of compassionate quality care and nursing supervision as evidenced by adequate services and staff coverage on the unit.
    9. Monitors and ensures timely, effective responses to significant changes in condition, transfers, discharges, use of restraints, unexplained injuries, falls, behavioral episodes, medication errors, and environmental issues on the unit.
    10. Performs rounds to observe care and to interview staff, patients, families or other interested parties.
    11. Collaborates with physicians, consultants, community agencies and institutions to improve the quality of services and to resolve identified problems.
    12. Oversees nursing schedules to assure they meet patient needs and regulatory and budgetary standards.
    13. Other duties as assigned.



    Candidates should have a minimum of 7 years of nursing experience, preferably in an Inpatient psychiatric setting and a minimum of 5 years experience in management and leadership with knowledge of data management and analysis and progressive discipline in order to supervise staff.  

    Must be flexible to adjust to the needs of a fast paced environment, demonstrate effective problem solving skills, and display proficient oral/written communication skills.   Previous adult behavioral health experience is strongly preferred.  Candidates must have active State of Maryland RN license or be eligible for endorsement.  Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare, Public Administration or Business is strongly preferred and Bachelor in Nursing is required.
