Our Registered Nurses promote and restore patients' health by completing the nursing process, collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary team members, providing physical and psychological support to patients and families and supervising assigned team members.

Inpatient Adult Behavioral Health & Psychiatry

Our inpatient psychiatric program provides a therapeutic environment through individualized treatment.  The treatment we provide is developed by a highly skilled interdisciplinary team of psychiatrists, social workers, psychiatric nurses, nurse practitioners, expressive therapists, discharge planners and CD counselors.

Requirements/Qualifications

Education, Experience & Skills: 

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
  • Licensed by the Board of Nurse Examiners for The District of Columbia.
  • One year Adult Psych, and/or Chemical Dependency nursing experience preferred.
  • Psychiatric mental health certification a plus. 
  • Articulate verbal communication and strong written skills.
  • Proficient computer skills required; Cerner Medconnect experience preferred.
  • American Heart Association BLS certification.

Shift: 12 hour shifts, weekend requirement

Medstar Washington Hospital Center

Is a not-for-profit, 912-bed academic medical center in the center of the nation’s capital.  Every day, hundreds of people in the region depend on us for their care.  It is the busiest and largest hospital in Washington, D.C. and the surrounding area and serve as a referral center and the central hub for the region’s most advanced acute medical care.

The inpatient unit has a capacity of 46 beds (24 on Unit 2K and 22 on Unit 2L). Our services are available to adults (18 years and older) for the treatment of all types of psychiatric, mental and emotional disorders, organic disorders with emotional components; the symptoms of which place the patient at imminent risk of harm to self or others.
